COMMUNICATION TRAINING

Good communication is about more than knowing what to say.

It begins with understanding who you are speaking to, what matters to them, and how to make your message land.

In my training we work on the skills behind that: structuring your thoughts, choosing your words, reading the room and adapting your approach. Not to make you sound like someone else, but to help you communicate with greater clarity, authority and impact.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This training is for professionals whose work depends on how well they communicate.

It is particularly suited to lawyers, but also to business owners, leaders and other professionals who need to present ideas, make persuasive arguments and communicate with authority.

Whether you are presenting to clients, speaking at a conference, making a case to decision-makers or addressing a room full of strong personalities, we work on how to structure your message, hold your audience’ attention and make your point land.

You already know your subject. The question is how effectively you can get it across.

WHAT WE WORK ON

PUBLIC SPEAKING & PRESENTING

Before you think about how to deliver your message, you need to know what you want your audience think, feel or do.

We work on structuring your ideas, holding your audience’s attention and delivering your message with clarity, confidence and presence.

INFLUENCE & PERSUASION

Influence starts with understanding who is in front of you. What matters to them? What do they need, fear or want — and what might actually move them?

Persuasion is rarely about pushing harder. It is about understanding what will land — and why.

We work on presenting ideas in a way that resonates with people listening — making your case clearly, anticipating objections and knowing when to adopt your approach.

NEGOTIATION

Good negotiation begins long before anybody sits down at the table. We work on listening, asking better questions, communicating your position clearly and reading what is happening before deciding what to say next.

DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS

Difficult conversations are rarely difficult because we have nothing to say. They become difficult because emotion, competing interests and uncertainty get in the way of saying it well.

We work on saying what needs to be said, listening when you would rather defend and staying in the conversation when it becomes uncomfortable.

FINDING YOUR OWN VOICE

Becoming a better communicator is not about using more complicated words or adopting someone else’s style.

There is enormous confidence in being able to say something simply, mean it and stand behind it. And there is something very persuasive about a person who isn’t trying too hard to be persuasive.

We work on helping you express your thoughts and ideas clearly — with conviction and confidence, without losing what makes your communication distinctly yours.

WHAT WILL YOU TAKE AWAY?

The aim isn’t to turn you into a different person. It is to share my experience and knowledge of years at the Bar with you — to help you become more deliberate, clear and effective in the way you communicate.

Depending on what we work on, the training may help you:

  • Think more clearly about what you want to communicate and why.

  • Structure your arguments so they are easy to follow.

  • Present your ideas more persuasively — by helping you make your case clearly.

  • Understand your audience and consider what matters to them when deciding how to present your message.

  • Communicate with greater confidence and authority, whether presenting to a group or making your case in a meeting.

  • Respond more effectively to questions and challenges without losing sight of your main argument.

WHY WORK WITH ME?

I spent 15 years working in law, including nearly seven years practicing as a barrister in the courts of England and Wales. Communication was not simply part of my job — much of the job depended on it.

Presenting persuasive arguments to demanding audiences, questioning expert witnesses on matters within their expertise, explaining complex legal issues in a way that made sense, and thinking on my feet when challenged were part of my everyday professional life.

Relying on my professional background I can confidently say that sometimes even the strongest case does not speak for itself. How you structure your arguments, which points you emphasise, how you anticipate objections and how you present your thoughts to the people making the decisions can make all the difference.

My approach to communication training draws on my experience at the Bar, alongside my interest in human psychology, human behaviour and the often complicated business of getting people to understand one another.

BRITISH COMMUNICATION

BRITISH COMMUNICATION

Business English, Communication Culture and Everything That Comes With It

You speak English. But does your English speak for you?

Is it helping you achieve your professional ambitions? Earn what you want to earn? Feel like you belong in the professional environment you’ve chosen?

Or, maybe, you always know what you want to say in the meeting yet it somehow never comes out the way you intended?

I offer Business English coaching through conversation.

Entertaining and occasionally a little existential.

We work on the English that matters when the stakes are high; expressing complex ideas, handling difficult conversations, & navigating the unspoken rules of British professional culture.

We also drink tea. With milk. It helps with the cultural context.

Beyond the words

How direct should you be? How do you sound confident without sounding aggressive, or polite without sounding uncertain?

When a British colleague describes your proposal as “quite interesting”, is that a compliment, a polite dismissal or an indication that something has gone terribly wrong?

These aren’t conventional English lessons. They’re conversations with a purpose.

We’ll explore implication, understatement, humour, professional conventions and the considerable amount people manage to communicate without actually saying it. We will do it — by practicing it.

There is room for humour, curiosity, disagreement and the occasional uncomfortable observation about life.

And throughout these conversations, we’ll be working on your Business English.

Who is this for?

These sessions are designed for professionals who already speak English and use it in their working lives.

You might be a lawyer, a technology professional, a business owner, a consultant or someone working with British clients, colleagues or organisations.

You might be from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania or somewhere else entirely.

You want to understand the subtleties of British professional communication and feel more at home in an environment that may not be culturally your own.

And perhaps you’d simply enjoy having an interesting conversation in English that leaves you with something to think about afterwards.

I learnt much of this from the outside, too.

I moved from Estonia to Britain at 19.

English wasn’t my first language. British culture wasn’t my culture.

Years later, I was practising as a barrister in a profession where language, nuance and the difference between what somebody said, meant and carefully avoided saying were part of the job.

I learnt that the right words matter, but so do timing, tone, context and the things nobody quite says aloud.

It took me years to understand some of what I now know.

I may be able to shorten the journey for you.

For professionals who want to communicate with greater confidence, appreciate the subtleties of British culture, understand what’s happening around them and feel that they belong in the room.

Practical, high-level communication training shaped by years of advocacy, negotiation and high-stakes professional communication.

Whether you’re preparing for a presentation, navigating a difficult conversation, negotiating, or simply want to become a more confident and effective communicator, we start with what you actually need to be able to do.

Not sure what you need?

That’s absolutely fine. Tell me what’s happening. We’ll work out from there what would be most useful.

All work begins with a free and confidential 30-minute discovery call. It gives us a chance to talk about what you’re looking for, whether I’m the right person to help and, if so, what working together might look like.
